Step 1. – Lack of Knowledge
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;
because you have rejected knowledge,
I reject you from being a priest to me.
And since you have forgotten the law of your God,
I also will forget your children. (Hos. 4:6 ESV)
“Lack of knowledge” is not a reference to how smart a person is, or what education level they have obtained. This is to be viewed as spiritual knowledge. When God says “Lack of knowledge”, He is talking about Spiritual ignorance; not being knowledgeable in spiritual things.
To be knowledgeable in spiritual matters, you do not need a theological degree. You just need to know Jesus in an intimate and passionate way. You accomplish this through prayer and Bible reading.
Some people think that their knowledge of God is secure due to their familiarity of the Bible and their practice of various religious rites – communion, tithing, offering, church attendance, etc. While these things are all good, if there is no intimate relationship with Jesus, then there is no true knowledge of God. Knowing about God is not the same as knowing God.
Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. (Col. 3:9-10 ESV)
This world is getting better and better at offering distractions at keeping Christians from attending church. Church attendance should not be the only source of your knowledge of God, but it certainly does help.
As Christians, we should be investing our time into our relationship with God. We often talk about making Jesus our “Personal Savior”. Asking Jesus to forgive your sins does not make him your personal savior. For Jesus to be personal to you, you must get to know the Person of Jesus.
Jesus knows us thoroughly.
We need to know Him thoroughly.
Know him every day,
or you will know Him less.
