Praise the Lord

Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created. (Rev. 4:11 NASB)

It would be hard to pick my favorite song on Matthew West’s My Story Your Glory album but Praise the Lord (To God be the Glory) has to rank near the top.  This song is an updated version of an old hymn.  The first verse has a slight rewrite, and the whole song is modernized musically.  This song points out the simple truth that all glory belongs to God.

This song sums up the reasons to give God glory around the life of Christ.

  • Verse 1 – Christ came to this world
  • Verse 2 – Christ died for our sins
  • Verse 3 – We can live with Christ for eternity

Looking at that list above, I am left with one response, Glory to God (to God be the glory)!!!

This is an excellent list describing why we give God the glory.  However, there are so many more reasons.  One song can’t possibly show how everything relates back to God and He should be given the glory for it all.

Look at all the experiences that you have come through.  I’m certain that you can see God through every twist and turn.  If not, take another look!

I can look at my own life and see God everywhere.

  • I was raised in a Christian home by parents who taught me the love of Christ. (To God be the Glory!!)
  • God placed me in the right place at the right time in the right circumstances to meet the woman of my dreams. (To God be the Glory!!)
  • We have been happily married for over 23 years. (To God be the Glory!!)
  • I have been plagued by the disease MS for well over 20 years. However, God has turned the circumstance and used it for His good.  (To God be the Glory!!)

These are just a few examples.  I can see God at work in my life all the time.  He provides for me.  He protects me.  He encourages me.  He helps me through tough situations.  He blesses me.  To all of that I say, To God be the Glory!!

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Cor. 10:31 ESV)

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of His hands. (Ps. 19:1 HCSB)

Praise the Lord (To God be the Glory)
To God be the glory, great things He has done
He so loved the world that He gave us His Son
Who gave up His life, the forgiveness of sin
The gates open wide, He has welcomed us in

Oh, praise the Lord, let the earth hear His voice
Oh, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice
Oh, come to the Father through Jesus His son
And give Him the glory, great things He has done

Praise the Lord (Praise the Lord)
Praise the Lord (Praise the Lord)
To God be the glory

Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood
To every believer the promise of God
The vilest offender who truly believes
That moment from Jesus, a pardon receives

Oh, praise the Lord, let the earth hear His voice
Oh, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice
Oh, come to the Father through Jesus His son
And give Him the glory, great things He has done

Praise the Lord (Praise the Lord)
Praise the Lord (Praise the Lord)
To God be the glory
Praise the Lord (Praise the Lord)
Praise the Lord (Praise the Lord)
To God be the glory

Great things He has taught us, great things He has done
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport when Jesus we see
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Oh, to God be the glory

Oh, praise the Lord, let the earth hear His voice
Oh, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice
Oh, come to the Father through Jesus His son
And give Him the glory, great things He has done
Oh, praise the Lord, let the earth hear His voice
Oh, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice
Oh, come to the Father through Jesus His son
And give Him the glory, great things He has done

Praise the Lord (Praise the Lord)
Praise the Lord (Praise the Lord)
To God be the glory
Praise the Lord (Praise the Lord)
Praise the Lord (Praise the Lord)
Oh, to God be the glory
Praise the Lord
