Heal Our Land – Intro

if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chr. 7:14 ESV).

Over the past several weeks, I have seen this verse posted on social media many times.  This is definitely a good verse to consider during times like these.  It is a great scripture to consider whether the world is going through a major catastrophe or not!

The verse begins, “if my people who are called by my name.”  This tells us specifically who is being addressed.  When this was originally written, the children of Israel were the people specifically meant by this phrase.  However, Christ came to set all people free.

This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

For there is one God
and one mediator between God and humanity,
Christ Jesus, Himself human,
who gave Himself—a ransom for all,
a testimony at the proper time. (1 Tim. 2:3-6 HCSB)

After that, all people are called by His name:

Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also (Rom. 3:29 ESV)

For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Rom. 10:12-13 NIV)

Even though this was originally written to a very specific people, as scripture, it applies to all of us who have called on the name of the Lord, today.

In 2 Chronicles 7, King Solomon dedicated the temple of the Lord before all  of Israel.  Starting in verse 12 is the Lord’s response to Solomon.  Verse 14 is part of that response.  God tells Solomon what He expects from us during times of crisis.  It is a 4 part response from us:

      1. Humble ourselves
      2. Pray
      3. Seek God’s face
      4. Turn from our evil ways

In return, He will answer in 3 parts:

      1. He will hear from Heaven
      2. Forgive our sin
      3. Heal our land

That is ultimately what we need to happen, that our land would be healed of this virus.  I am going to use this as the introduction to a “Heal Our Land” series as I go over each of these points I listed above.  I may do 1 or 2 points in each post, so I’m not sure how long this series will be yet.
