Rich Mullins paints a beautiful musical picture throughout this song, then tells us that no matter where he looks, he sees the Lord. I find that to be a very profound statement of faith. This song points out that even when times are hard, you can still look and see the Lord:
Well the grass will die
And the flowers fall
But Your Word’s alive
And it will be after all
He points out that you get some dark moments in your life, but you can press on because of Jesus, and there will be light:
I look through the night
And I can see the rising sun
The prophet Habakkuk had this same outlook:
Even if the fig tree does not blossom,
And there is no fruit on the vines,
If the yield of the olive fails,
And the fields produce no food,
Even if the flock disappears from the fold,
And there are no cattle in the stalls,
Yet I will triumph in the Lord,
I will rejoice in the God of my salvation. (Hab. 3:17-18 NASB)
The ability to see God in everything is what compelled Rich to move to the Navajo reservation to teach music for the final 2 years of his life.
Having vision to see the Lord and being quiet to hear His voice will afford you the opportunity to do things you never dreamed of or even thought possible. Mix in a little faith, and you can accomplish big things. Maybe it’s not moving to a Navajo Reservation to teach music. But, to you, it might seem like that big of a deal. It might change the trajectory of your life. Then again, it might be just small, course corrections to help you out on the way. Everyone is different. How you see the Lord will differ from how I see the Lord. What matters is that we all see the Lord in everything and everywhere that we look!
I See You
Lord You’re leading me
With a cloud by day
And then in the night
The glow of a burning flame
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And You take my hand
And You wash it clean
I know the promised land
Is light years ahead of me
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
Well the eagle flies
And the rivers run
I look through the night
And I can see the rising sun
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
Well the grass will die
And the flowers fall
But Your Word’s alive
And it will be after all
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
And everywhere I go I see You
