And they were bringing children to Him so that He would touch them; but the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, “Allow the children to come to Me; do not forbid them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.” And He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them. (Mk. 10:13-16 NASB)
Think back to when you were a child, or just observe children today. When they get injured, whether physically or emotionally, the instinct is to turn their attention to mom and/or dad. They run, crying, with hands outstretched, wanting nothing more than to just be picked up and loved on. There is power in the comforting grasp of the arms of a child’s parents.
Rich Mullins realized that with this song when he cried out to Jesus to “Hold Me.” Through the various storms that he presents throughout the song, he simply requests:
So hold me Jesus, ’cause I’m shakin’ like a leaf
Jesus never promised you a life free from problems. On the contrary, He seemed to guarantee that you would face trouble:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
(Jn. 16:33, NIV)
This scripture tells you that even though you will have to face troubles in this world, Christ has conquered the world! So often, people assume that means Jesus is providing a way out of every situation. However, in the first part of the verse, He told the disciples that in Him they could have peace.
There are situations I have been praying about for 20 years. I feel at peace about them. However, I am still continue to pray for the ultimate deliverance from them.
So, whenever you get injured (physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually), know that you can run, crying, with arms outstretched to your Father. He is waiting to take you up in His arms, comfort you, and rescue you with peace.
Hold Me Jesus
Well, sometimes my life just don’t make sense at all
When the mountains look so big
And my faith just seems so small
So hold me Jesus, ’cause I’m shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won’t You be my Prince of Peace
And I wake up in the night and feel the dark
It’s so hot inside my soul
I swear there must be blisters on my heart
So hold me Jesus, ’cause I’m shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won’t You be my Prince of Peace
Surrender don’t come natural to me
I’d rather fight You for something I don’t really want
Than to take what You give that I need
And I’ve beat my head against so many walls
Now I’m falling down, I’m falling on my knees
And this Salvation Army band is playing this hymn
And Your grace rings out so deep
It makes my resistance seem so thin
I’m singing hold me Jesus, ’cause I’m shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won’t You be my Prince of Peace
You have been King of my glory
Won’t You be my Prince of Peace
