God Did It

I have MS.  It is a central nervous system disease that affects many areas of my life.  One of the largest impacts I have had was on my balance and leg strength, which ultimately has affected my walking.  In 2007, I started using a cane for everyday use, and a mobility scooter to help with longer distances.

In 2017, I had to go to the mall to return some purchases.  When I parked, and started to unload my scooter, I felt like the Lord was prompting me to leave my cane and scooter in the car.  So, even though I would be walking all over the mall, I listened to the Lord and set out without any assistive device.  I was tired when I completed my task, but I walked further unassisted than I had in the previous 10 years.  I have not used a cane or scooter since.  I have not been healed of MS, but the Lord healed that aspect of MS.

Prior to that event, in 2016, I began a weight loss journey.  It took a full year, but I lost 65 pounds!

When I started telling people that the Lord had healed my ability to walk, most people told me that it wasn’t a healing.  They told me that my weight loss had given me the ability to walk better.  The idea was that my weight was putting less stress on my legs, enabling me to balance better.  This was being told to me by fellow Christians.  I expected this from non-believers, but I never expected it from the church family.  It left me with this thought:

Sometimes people have enough faith to pray,
but not enough to believe that God will answer.

I have seen my weight creep back up over the last couple years.  Several weeks back, I noticed that I weighed more than I had when I started my weight loss.  In other words, I had gained back more than I had lost.  However, this weight gain has not negatively impacted my balance and and strength.  I have not noticed a decline in my ability to walk.  The conclusion – God Did It!!  My walking was healed, and not a product of weight loss.

In the book of Acts, Herod has Peter arrested with the intent to execute him (see Acts 12:1-19).  Verse 6 tells us “So Peter was kept in prison, but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church.” (ESV)  After that, the scripture details how God freed Peter from prison.  Peter then went to the house where many others were gathered to pray for him.

And when he knocked at the door of the gateway, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer. Recognizing Peter’s voice, in her joy she did not open the gate but ran in and reported that Peter was standing at the gate. They said to her, “You are out of your mind.” But she kept insisting that it was so, and they kept saying, “It is his angel!” (Acts 12:13-15 ESV)

This is a Biblical account that shows sometimes people have enough faith to pray, but not enough to believe that God will answer.  All the people gathered in Mary’s house were praying earnestly for Peter.  But, when he was delivered, they refused to believe it.

Whenever you call on God to help with something:

  1. Have patience. His timing and your timing are not usually the same
  2. Be prepared for anything. God does not always answer your prayer the way you expect Him to.
  3. Give Him credit. Whatever happens, understand that God answers prayer through His divine providence.  Your situation could have just worked out on its own.  However, it’s more likely that God Did It!

God Did It
Ain’t nobody but God did it
There’s no way around
Some things you can’t explain away
Too good for me to doubt

I met him at a time when his life was breakin’ down
Lost his job and his wife, he was 98 pounds
On a good day, and there weren’t too many of ‘em
Told me it’s hard to live with, much less to love him
He asked me if I’d pray, but he didn’t say when
So I stopped in that parkin’ lot and went right in
Said, “God, would You give him all the hope that You’re known for?
The kind that brings dead men up from the cold floor?”
It was one year, six months to the day
That I saw him pullin’ up to his place
With his wife, newborn on the way
And all he really had to say was

“Ain’t nobody but God did it”
There’s no way around
Some things you can’t explain away
Too good for me to doubt
Said nobody but God did it
Showered me in love
When it looked like it was over
He went and did just what He does
God did it

Ain’t nobody, ain’t nobody but God did it
Ain’t nobody, ain’t nobody but God
Ain’t nobody, ain’t nobody but God did it
Ain’t nobody but God did it, ain’t nobody but God

Brokenhearted on the front row of my show
I see you out there hangin’ on, don’t you let go
Even though you don’t love His timin’
You still believe in the story He’s writin’
We’re countin’ on the long game
You’re ‘bout to see the real thing
And we’ll be sayin’ at the end of it all

“Ain’t nobody but God did it”
There’s no way around
Some things you can’t explain away
Too good for me to doubt
Said nobody but God did it
Showered me in love
When it looked like it was over
He went and did just what He does
God did it

Ain’t nobody, ain’t nobody but God did it
Ain’t nobody, ain’t nobody but God
Ain’t nobody, ain’t nobody but God did it
Ain’t nobody but God did it, ain’t nobody but God

When life was pushin’ down, prayers were goin’ up
When life was pushin’ down, prayers were goin’ up
When life was pushin’ down, prayers were goin’ up
God did it, God did it
When life was pushin’ down, prayers were goin’ up
When life was pushin’ down, prayers were goin’ up
When life was pushin’ down, prayers were goin’ up
God did it, God did it

Ain’t nobody, ain’t nobody but God did it
Ain’t nobody, ain’t nobody but God
Ain’t nobody, ain’t nobody but God did it
Ain’t nobody but God did it, ain’t nobody
Ain’t nobody but God, ain’t nobody but God did it
Ain’t nobody but God, ain’t nobody but God
Ain’t nobody but God, ain’t nobody but God did it
Ain’t nobody but God did it, God did it

God
God did it
God
God did it, God did it
God
