No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom. 8:37-39 NRSV)
To separate two things from each other means to come between them and move them away from each other. This verse says that nothing can separate us from the love of God. This means that whatever circumstances you face, God still loves you. Whether you are living for God, or not, He still loves you. There is absolutely no situation where God will love you less. Nothing can separate you from God’s love.
In his song, The God Who Stays, Matthew West says:
My shame can’t separate
My guilt can’t separate
My past can’t separate
I’m Yours forever
My sin can’t separate
My scars can’t separate
My failures can’t separate
I’m Yours forever
No enemy can separate
No power of hell can take away
Your love for me will never change
I’m Yours forever
Even though God may love you regardless of the circumstance, you still must believe in Him.:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 ESV)
God’s love for you is not dependent on whether you believe in Him. However, you must believe in Him to achieve eternal life.
I have witnessed too many people lose their belief in God due to the circumstances they were in. When they pray over their circumstances, they expect God will answer the way they want Him to answer. Sometimes that is not the case. God answers prayer, but not always the way you expect Him to.
When circumstances seem overwhelming, ask God for deliverance from the circumstances. But, remember, His deliverance may look different than you expect. Romans 8:37 says that “in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (NRSV). The New American Standard Bible puts it like this:
But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.
When the scripture says, “in all these things”, you need to understand what all these things are. The only way to know that is by reading the larger portion of scripture that precedes it. In this case, start reading from v. 18, and you gain a better understanding of this verse. I’ll highlight some of these verses:
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us. (v. 18)
We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose. (v. 28)
What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He did not even spare His own Son but offered Him up for us all; how will He not also with Him grant us everything? (vv. 31-32)
Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or anguish or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? (v. 35)
No, in all these things we are more than victorious through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers, height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord! (vv. 37-39)
It is up to you to determine that whatever your situation, whatever circumstances you face, nothing will stop you from believing!
Can’t Stop Me
This road is dark
I see a spark
I see some lights out in the distance
Can they hear my heart…beat?
Can they see my weakness?
Do they know my hurt?
An easy target am I the prey for
The circlin’ birds
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
And if I die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take
But if I live another day
I’ll rise and face my enemies
My heart on my sleeve
My feet on the ground
I’ve come too far for backin’ down
The devils I’ve been seein’
The lies that they’ve been preachin’
Can’t stop me from believing’
The coldest of the seasons that break my heart to pieces
Can’t stop me from believing’
Can’t stop me from believing’
Can’t stop me from believin’
One to make me doubt
Another to make me fear
At every high and every low they whisper in my ear
They tell me that I’m not enough to plot the atmosphere
Or fill me up with thoughts that puff me up like I’m veneer
The dark may come against me til the day I die
Only one of us is gettin’ out of here alive
I’m standin’ on the truth against a thousand lies
Only one of us is gettin’ out of here alive
The devils I’ve been seein’
The lies that they’ve been preachin’
Can’t stop me from believing’
The coldest of the seasons that break my heart to pieces
Can’t stop me from believing’
Can’t stop me from believin’
Can’t stop me from believing’
Can’t stop me from believing’
Can’t stop me from believin’
It’s no mystery missed on me, oh no
No eye has ever seen
We won’t make an apology
We put our faith in somethin’ that our eyes have never seen
The devils I’ve been seein’
The lies that they’ve been preachin’
Can’t stop me from believing’
The coldest of the seasons that break my heart to pieces
Can’t stop me from believing’
Can’t stop me from believing’
Can’t stop me from believing’
Can’t stop me from believing’
Can’t stop me from believin’
No matter how much they hurt me
I still believe
And even when life is perfect
I still believe
I’ve already lived to see the day where the One who gives takes away
And after it all I’m here to say
I still believe
