Unplanned

For it was You who created my inward parts;
You knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You
because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made.
Your works are wonderful,
and I know this very well.
My bones were not hidden from You
when I was made in secret,
when I was formed in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw me when I was formless;
all my days were written in Your book and planned
before a single one of them began.  (Ps. 139:13-16 HCSB)

Since the Supreme Court overturned Row v. Wade, the abortion rights activists have been claiming it has taken away a women’s rights to reproductive health care.  VP Kamala Harris takes it a step further:

“One does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held beliefs to agree: The government, and certainly Donald Trump, should not be telling a woman what to do with her body.” – Kamala Harris, Sep. 19, 2024.

Comments like this are designed to make the abortion issue solely about the pregnant woman and take the focus off the baby.  Yes, abortion has a profound impact on a woman’s life.  However, it has an even greater impact on the life of the baby.  When babies are born, there are a number of laws designed to protect them from abuse, neglect, and murder.  However, prior to birth, there are no protections.  I am not interested in telling a woman what she can do with her own body.  However, I am adamant that she should not be allowed to kill another.

For years, there has been an ongoing debate as to when the baby is considered a human.  I don’t understand this debate.  How is it possible that some formation of tissue just keeps expanding and forming until some magical moment it suddenly becomes a person?  The Bible is very clear that all of us were known by God at the earliest stages of pregnancy. (Ps. 139:16, Jer. 1:5)

Ps. 139:16 says that God has a plan for us.  That plan isn’t made as we grow into adults.  That plan isn’t made when we exit the womb.  That plan is made at the point of conception.

People try to say that my argument is nullified by science.  Science may disagree with faith on many issues, but science does not nullify faith.  Science is based on theories.  Some of those theories seem reasonable, and easy to prove.  Others require the “benefit of doubt”.  That sounds like you need faith to believe science!

VP Harris tried to incorporate faith into her statement advocating for abortion.  Pro Football personality Tony Dungy had the perfect response for her:

“Dear VP Harris: I hear you make this statement all the time. Exactly what “faith” are you talking about when you say you don’t have to abandon it to support abortion?  Are you talking about the Christian faith that says all babies are made in the image of God (Gen 1:26), that God places them in the womb (Jer 1:5) and that we should not take any life unjustly (Luke 18:20)?  Are you talking about that faith or some nebulous, general “faith” that says we’re good enough, and smart enough to make our own decisions?  What “faith” are you talking about?” – Tony Dungy, Sep. 19, 2024

Unplanned
I’m looking at a masterpiece
I’m staring at a work of art
I’m listening to a symphony, in every beat of your tiny heart

You used to be a choice to make
But now I think you’ve chosen me
‘Cause I see ten fingers, ten toes, two eyes and I know this is meant to be

Oh, I don’t believe in accidents
Miracles they don’t just happen by chance
As long as my God holds the world in His hands
I know that there’s no such thing as unplanned

Broken turns to beautiful
I see you right before my eyes
And every single breath you breathe is destiny love has brought to life

I thought it was my story’s end
But now the future’s all I see
Instead of asking who you might have been
I’m wondering who you’re gonna be

‘Cause I don’t believe in accidents
Miracles they don’t just happen by chance
As long as my God holds the world in his hands
I know that there’s no such thing as unplanned

Every life deserves a voice
Every child deserves a chance
You are more than just a choice
There’s no such thing as unplanned

Every life deserves a voice
Every child deserves a chance
You are more than just a choice
‘Cause there’s no such thing as unplanned
